showdown between three-time champion Wilson C and defending champion Yadie Dayana. However, the highly anticipated face-off took an unexpected turn, leaving spectators and participants in shock just eleven minutes into the event.

“Yadie was so busy coaching the fellow contenders at his table that he forgot to puff on his own cigar,” the organizers recounted. Despite the disappointment, Yadie didn’t leave empty-handed. A consolation prize for the first person out ensured he didn’t return to Indonesia without a token of participation. Additionally, the other competitors now have the unique bragging rights of having outperformed the two-time champion.

Wilson C, on the other hand, was determined to make a comeback after narrowly missing out on the prizes in 2023, where he finished fourth. This year, his preparation and focus paid off. As the competition progressed, 18 of the 36 contestants were out by the one-hour mark. By one hour and 45 minutes, only three contenders remained: Muhammad Mukhlis and Mutia Faisal Chaniago from Indonesia, and Wilson C from Malaysia.

At one hour, 48 minutes, and 17 seconds, Mukhlis was eliminated, followed by Chaniago, the owner of Caesar Cigar Shop & Lounge in Jakarta, seven minutes later. This left Wilson C as the last man standing. Just one minute after the two-hour mark, he claimed his fourth title, marking yet another successful event in Malaysia.

“For many competitors, as well as for the hosts and the judges, the annual gathering is starting to feel like a reunion,” the organizers noted. The event was particularly memorable due to the large contingent of Indonesian participants who attend every year. With some competitors already signed up for the qualifier in Phuket this coming weekend, there remains a second chance for those who didn’t win.

This year’s qualifier in Malaysia not only showcased exceptional talent and unexpected twists but also reinforced the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define the slow smoking community.
